Raindrop Therapy: A Treatment That Deserves More Attention

A few months ago I held “Raindrop Therapy” training for my staff. I hadn’t personally ever received a Raindrop session and truly didn’t know what to expect.
I was surprised when the facilitator gave me the long list of organic essential oils to purchase, since this treatment utilizes more than 10 oils.
This type of massage is based on Lokata Native Healing and involves the application of powerful antibacterial and antiviral oils along the spine, feet, and legs. The theory is that the oils used in the Raindrop Technique actually kill dormant viruses and bacteria that live in the deep tissue and bone structures of the spine. Since the oils are anti-inflammatory, many people notice that their spines feel more aligned and less stressed after a session; and it has even helped those who suffer from scoliosis.
At the beginning of the practical portion of the training, I offered to “give” first. Performing this treatment is a joy, because the room fills with wonderful aromas and the practitioners often soak oil in through their hands.
We began with Blue Tansy essential oil, which smells sensationally sweet and is actually bright blue in color! We continued with oils of Oregano, Thyme, Basil, Birch, Cypress, Peppermint, and Marjoram. These oils have strong qualities such as ant-bacterial, anti-inflammatory, analgesic, anti-viral, anti-parasitical, digestive, anti-oxidant, and much more. I was surprised how much essential oil is used for one treatment- almost 50 drops!
In between the application of the oils, we used the “Vitaflex” technique, which is a stimulating modality of massage that allows the body to absorb the oils on a deep level.
When we finished the treatment, we opened the door and within minutes the whole 3rd floor of the hotel was basking in the smell of the beautiful essential oils. Our test subjects came out of the room feeling amazing and they were high on endorphins.
Then it was my turn to receive, which was an all together different experience than I imagined. The way the oils are applied to the body is very soothing- the practitioner holds the essential oil bottle 6 inches from the body and allows the oil to delicately fall on the back- mimicking raindrops. I felt waves of sensations ranging from comforting heat, to subtle vibrations, to soothing cold. The Vitaflex massage felt stimulating and relieving. When I stood up, I had a deep sense of euphoria, and for weeks I felt very healthy and full of energy.
I thought it was interesting that the recommended treatment schedule for Raindrop Therapy is once every 4 months. Apparently, the healing effects from this treatment are so powerful and detoxifying, it is best to space out treatments.
I’m happy to be offering this service, while supporting a local organic essential oil dealer- Isis Essentials. I like that the positive effects Raindrop Therapy are long-lasting, which gives incredible value to this treatment. Our name for this treatment at Bodhi Day Spa will be called “Dew Drop Therapy”.
